(no subject)

Does anyone know whether I have the right to opt my son out of the early years foundation stage? I know care providers can apply for an exemption, but not whether parents can say that they don't want their children involved in this bullshit curriculum. The whole thing makes me feel ill: my son is two years old and all I want from his nursery at this point in time is that he's kept safe, happy and entertained. I honestly think the EYFS will be harmful to children, and I wondered what my options were.

ETA- one of many available articles should anyone not be sure what I'm on about!

Downing Street Petition

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/suspend-social/

This is a petition asking the UK Gov to suspend social workers who remove children without a court order.  In other words, it's asking them to automatically suspend until _cleared_ the social worker who acted _illegally_ in the first place.

What does it say about power in our world, that a petition has been started, to ask the Government take seriously, a social worker acting outside their job description?

Please propagate.  :-)

Baby returned by court order

At least it's getting about that if social services do take your baby without a court order in place (which they can't ever do, as no one ever does that in the UK, obviously) you immediately go to court and demand the baby back!

If only the Essex baby's family had known to push for this, the baby would have been back on the breast that evening...

Court orders return of new baby
A teenage mother from Nottingham whose new-born child was taken from her by social services is to seek damages.

The boy was born to the 18-year-old, who had just left local authority care, but taken two hours later by social services without a court order.

GMTV

GMTV have a survey on their website asking if women should breast feed their babies beyond the age of two. The purpose of the survey is unsure, but give that its GMTV you can be pretty sure it will be used for some kind of sensationalist article on their show at a later date.

When I was first made aware of this survey the results were 82% of people say no. Since then it has changed and is now 61% say no and the rest say yes, largely I think due to the huge community I belong to that are all up in arms.

Please vote, and if you feel so inclined drop GMTV a line asking why they are asking, and if the results are no, will they be doing an article about what a shame this is with supporting evidence from the WHO etc?

Anyway it's here http://www.gm.tv/ Pink box left side of the page.

Cross posted.
